“SCOOP MINTER MNT HERE: OR EVEN ON THE WAY; THE GEESE SAY 80 Waterfowl Return to Canada to Cool Off While Dakota Enjoys Injun Summer Gackle, N. D., Nov. 2.—Winter is not nor near, say old-time weather nosticators. In spite of snow drifts and bob sleighs and __ stalled trains and nipped e they declare that winter is still weeks distant, and they base their prediction on the fact that waterfowl, with which local ponds were covered a few days ago, all have flown north again. The geese de- parted on the eve of a particularly frigid day, and spectators who exp ed to see them head for the sun south were surprised when they set their course by the north star. Pio-} neers who have lived here since early territorial days assert that the In- dians always predicted a mild and late winter when waterfowl flew north at this season of the year, and that they never guessed wrong. The fact that within the last day or two a belated Indian summer has been vouchsafed North Dakota would tend to serve as further proof that the Indian barom- eter is reliable.
