They stand as the exponent and as the agency of professional teaching in the element- ary field; and it is said that the best teaching today is done in the element- ary schools. al teaching in elementary schools, men began to inquire why. high school teachers should not also be prepared tor their important and complicated function. There have been from the beginning of this movement some who that teaching is an. art which has’ to be learned by practice alone; they entirely born and in no sense made— that the art of teaching, in fact, runs in the blood. It reminds one of the story of the man who had a wooden leg and who said that both his father and his grandfather had a wooden leg and that he believed it ran in the blood. North Dakota, always educationally progressive, should set its foot down your work, we do not presume to ap ply for admission at the doors of our profession.’ What is worth doing. is worth doing well, and it is too seri- ous a matter to allow mere playing with a profession which has at heart | the up-building of the lives of our boys and girls. “In my opinion, 99 out of 100 fail- ures in teaching come not from a lack of knowledge in the. subject-matter, but from mistakes and blunders on the pedagogic side. The real teacher who is alive, active and energetic is one around whom the community in some measure will revolve; the real teacher is a ‘live wire,” and a com- munity will be energized in various ways by such a teacher.” HEARING OF HALL POSTPONED UNTIL SATURDAY NOY. 10 |W. Secretary of State Hall served as sec- retary of the railway commission prior to his election to his, present. office, five years ago, did not learn of the charge against Hall until so recently that he could not postpone a hearing | which he already had scheduled for arson tomorrow. He presented these | facts this morning to Attorney Gen- eral Langer, who is handling the pros- | ccution of Hall and E. M. Walla, clerk jin the registration department, and the hearing was set over a week.
