sPRING WoRK on ood Roas| GOVERNMENT GOT THIS “CHASER" FOR A DOLLAR One or Two Trips Up and Down With Drag Will Put Them in Fine Con- dition—Details of a Drag. (By LEO MATTHEWS.) In the spring of the year, when the roads begin to dry and the dirt is still somewhat moist, one or two trips up and down with the road drag will put them in excellent condition. If each farmer would care for the road which passes his place, dragging it every time it needed it, we would all have occasion to rejoice. Personally, 1 don't believe there is a steel drag made that will beat the work of the old King drag. Another point in its favor is that it can be made at home and costs practically nothing. . Because of constant inquiry for plans of this drag and to encourage Outline of King Drag. its further use I give this detailed drawing and make the following sug- gestions: Use light wood. The drag will do the most efficient work if it is light enough for one man to lift. Don’t use square timber, as it will not stay sharp on the edge like a half-round timber. A log from 10 to 12 inches in diameter is best. _A strip of iron three-eighths of an inch thick, three or four inches wide and thirty-six inches long bolted to the right-hand side of the front tim- ber, is very effective in cutfing down unusually rough spots. LAST CALL FOR SUMMER TRAINING CAMP FOR OFFICERS . During the past week the local committee representing the officers’ training camp to be held at Fort Snelling for three months starting May 8, has been busily engaged in receiving applications, giving infor- mation and answering questions rela- tive to the camp. Response has been very liberal and many have signed up the application blanks. The committee advises that every one who can possibly do so, and who are thinking of joining, do so at once. It is an opportunity to get a good position in the army through the training which will be given. The office of second lieutenant re- quires no previous military training and leaves an opening for those de- |siring an office, but have no train- ing to take advantage of this oppor- tunity. The number of men to be accepted is limited and those having their ap- plications in first will be sure of a position, providing they fulfill the requirements. In talking with the head office in St..Paul this morning, the committee was informed that a great number of applications were being received every day. The mem bers of the local committee composed of A. G. Wedge, Dr. E. H. Marcum, George Geib, H. M. Stanton and E. R. Getchell, will confer with any one interested. Anyone desiring to procure a copy of the drill manual may get one from Mr. Leibsle at his office in the Mark- ham building. ‘A limited number have been secured and the price is 40 cents each.
