Self iFeeder For Thrasher. Those of us who have stood up in front of a separator cylinder' and clawed’ in ‘the Wheat or oat bundles from left and right'through a long Au- gust day will be ifiterested in a new ‘type of ‘self feeder recenfly patented by a Minnesota’ thrasher ‘man. This device.does away with the band cut- ters as well as the machine feeder. This is but one of a dozen or more patents issued in a short time on simi- lar claims. The operation of a thrash- er is becoming more and more a ques- tion of mechanical ability. — Farm Progress. Good seed is an important matter with the gardener as well as the farm- er. It nmever pays to buy cheap seed. Experiments were carried on a year or two ago by the Pennsylvania Experi- ment station with some ten or more stralns of cabbage seed of the same varieties- from different firms. They found variations of yield from five to ten or fifteen tons an acre. according to the strain of seed. The seed of the highest quality meant several dollars more to the acre in net returns, even {f it did cost a few cents more a pound. 6BREAD KNIVES FREE lron'Buke For Hay Wagon. ‘Any "blacksmith can easily 'make an iron brake for a hay wagon such as is brake rod, the lever extending ‘back- a strong though light rope to the load to the driver. Because of the many new com- plications introduced into the use of the streets by the automobile the time has certainly come to re- vise thoroughly the traffic meth- ods and regulations of the ds of horse drawn vehicles. Some of the older cities. which were the first to introduce traflic regula- tion, have now fallen behind smaller places because of failure % to recognize the new condition and to meet new needs.—Ameri can City. ettt tetedodededededededosedeslesis Tl o FOR CHRISTMAS We are giving a fine serated edge bread knife with every 50c 1'; And other bakery ‘godds. this surprise. purchase of 'PFEIFER’S SPECIAL BREAD il Make that wife happy and spring The Purity Bakery | Phone 120 J.J.PFEIFER 204 Third St... A Christmas Thought By LUCY LARCOM. g H, Christmas is coming again, you say, And you long for the things b it is bringing, But the costliest gift may not glad- den the day Nor help on the merry bells ring- ing. - Some getting is losing, you under- stand; Some hoarding is far from saving. What you hold in your hand may slip from your hand; There is' something better than having. ‘Woe are richer for what we give, And only by giving we live. Your last year's presents are scat- tered and gone, You have almost forgot who gave them, But the loving thoughts you bestow live on As long as you choose to have them. Love, love-is your riches, though ever 80 poor; No money can buy that treasure, Yours always, from robber and rust secure, Your own without stint or meas- ure. ‘It is-only love that we can give; Itis only by loving we live.
