Indianapolis,- Dec. 8.—With the sit- wvation changed overnight the team- .sters’ strilke, instead of threatening a general walkout of union labor, is moving toward a general resumption of work. More than,K 1,000 union eamsters returned to work, after be- ing out five days. The employers of these men signed the union agree- ment. " Daniel J. Tobin, international pres- ident of the teamsters, who effected the partial settlement, said that he expected a long struggle over the de- wmands of the remaining 2,000 men on strike. Zabern, Germany, Dec. 8.—Headed by its energetic commander, Colonel von Reuter, the Ninety-ninth infdntry regiment, whose officers have caused 80 much' strife between ‘the military and civil authorities in Alsace, mas-ed out of Zabern on the way to uncomfortable. camp quarters. Half of the men go to Hagenau, pixteen miles northeast of Strassburg, in the forest, and the other half to Bitsch, a small fortified town at the foot of the Vosgues- mountains. Not even the customary detachment was left in charge of the barracks and army property, a guard being detailed for the service from the garrison of Strassburg. New York, Dec. 8—The steamship Seminole of the Clyde line has been beached at Puerto Plata,’ San Do- mingo, to keep her from sinking after she sprang a leak. This news reached the office of the Clyde line here in a message from their agents in Haiti.. The Seminole’s cargo is being re- moved. It is- understood that the crew and passengers are safe. The Maritime Exchange posted a uotice that the Seminole was a “total i0ss,” but this was denied by the of- ficers of the Clyde line. Two messages were received, it was said, the first to' the effect that the steamer had sprung a leak and was entering the port of Puerto Plata, the second that she had been beached and her cargo was being removed.
