In Pete Peterson he has succeeded in- satisfying the public demand for something that does away with the usual melodramatic style, and even the most fastidious theater-goers will find nothing objectionable. A good clean, comedy abounding in catchy songs, sparkling dia- logue and funny situvations is the offering, and judging from the lively demand for seats, it will be of Fresh Canned Gocds. He also informed the American thst in another year his compavy will be in the mar- ket for poplar. Pete Peterson. A Swedish Comedy Dr.m2 with an excellent cast and com- edies equipment of new scenery is oue of the promises made con- cerning Elmer Walters’ latest and best sensation, Pete Peter- son, which comes to the opera house Monday, Dec 10, The play is said to be a distinct novelty and something entirely out «f the ordinary. It relates the comical experiences of a Swede who contrives to Jand himself in several pretty lively kettles of fish, and offering many oppor- tunities for witty dialogue and ludicrous situations that prove vastly amusing. We understand nothing hke it has been produced recently. Every stitch of scenery used is carried complete, and if recent notices are reliable, Pete Peterson will fill 2 long-felt want for those who want ‘‘something different.” Four intelligent dogs are used in the climaxes. EXPECTS TO GO TO PRISON. Witness In Shea Trial Denies Being « Promised Leniency. Chicago, Dec. 7.—Thé attorneys for the defense In the Shea trial made vigorous efforts to obtain from Joseph Schultz, the witness who told on di- rect examination of slugging nonunion men and of throwing acid eggs at horses, an admission that he had heen promised certain inducements to plead guilty. Schultz, however, declared that he had made the plea of his free will and said that he expected to be sent to the penitentiary. The witness during cross-examina- tlon admitted he had, previous tc pleading guilty, held conversations with attaches of the state’s attorney’s office and also with attorneys of the Employers’ association, which fought the teamsters in their strike. At one of these meetings, he said, he had made a statement of his guilt to an assistant state’s attorney. The attorneys for the defense, after a lengthy cross-examination, obtained from Schultz the admission that he had recelved from Willlam Turner, an employe of a detective agency, some of whose operatives have been guard- ing him since he turned state’s evi- dence, o present of an overcoat. The defense attached much importance to the admission of the witness. FIGHTING ANTICIPATED. Attempt WIill Be Made to Break Har- bor Strike at Odessa.
