Arnold was thrown about thirty- five feet and lit on his head and chest, He attempted to pick himself up and had almost gotten to his feet when a portion of the cab rolled down and across his instep knocking him again to the ground. But when it was moved off of him by its own momentum f| he again tried to rise and fell again when he had regained his feet He found then that his en- tire left foot was crushed and bruised. He crawled through the piercing cold back along the long train of cars to his own cabonse. Both of his ears were frozen, Finding no one there he threw himgelf upon one of the bunks.: Tn half an hour his rear brakeman came back and ji. | came on to Crookston. C. T. Devins knows -nothing after the crash. He was rescued by the surviving members of the crew and was founrd pinned down by the head under a box car, In order to remove him it was neces- sary to take a large timber and pry up the piece of wreckage that held him down. His escape was miraculous. W. J. Carey, the forward brakeman of 415, who died yes. terday at 6 p. m., was thrown under the wreckage and against the boiler. It is probable that he died the most terrible death. His Teft side was scalded with the steam, and his leg torn from its sockets, The crew of the east bound freight took him with the other injured to their caboose; which was the nearest. (Arpold | was the only one that found his way out of the wreckage alone,) . Griffin, brakeman of 1123, who was in the caboose at the time of the wreck, was almost uncon- scious and though he tried a neck scarf could not eff:ctually staunch the great flow of blood He was unmarried and his parents live in Rat Portage, Wisconsin. V. C. Johnson, the fireman, was instantly killed. His head was mashed between the tander and the engine boiler. Whil: one of his feet could be seen by the rescuers, his body was so tightly held that he cou'd not be extricated.—Crookston Journal MYSTERY OF MISSING ROY KELLY AS DEEP AS EVER Still No Trace of Lost Clerk---J. M. Richards Returns From Search in Milwaukee. ] Crookston Journal: Manager J. M. Richards of the Crookston Lumber Co., arrived in the city this morning from Milwaukee where he spent a few days try- ing to get information relating to the mysterious disappearance of Roy Kelly. Mr. Richards |said to a Journal representative that notwithstanding the tireless efforts that are being put forth to get some clue as to the miss- ing boy’s whereabouts no infor- mation has been secured so far. The supposition is growing stronger every day that Kelly who bad a large sum of mozrey on his person was killed and carried away to some secret place where he was robbed. In order to cover up the crime it is inferred that his body may have been thrown into Lake Michigan. If such is the case it is very unlike- ly that he will ever be located. M. Kelly the father of the migsing boyarrived in the city this morning from Montana where he got word of the disappear- ance a few days ago but owing to the irregularity of-the trains the wasainableto get to Croolk- ston as soon as he desired.
