Harry Jolly left this afternoon for Cass Lake to appear as a wit- ness in a contest case that will be tried before the U. S. land office in that city today. Barnwd Johnson of Battle River township was in the city toduy and left this afternoon for Barnesville, where he will dis pose of real estate interests. Sydney Lyle, the piano tuner, arrived in the city this afternoon and will be prepared to accept orders for piano tuning at the Marhham hotel, where he is mak ing his headquarters. J. J. Trask left this afternoon for Cloquet, where he will attend the anual meeting of the Dulnth presbytery, Itis possible that Mr. Trask will accept a call from a church located on the range. J. J. Robideau has disposed of all his interests in Bemidji and left today with his family for Thief River Falls, where toget- her they will make their futuie home. Mr. Robideau expects ‘o be employed on the new exten- sion of the S10 now being built west from Thief River Falls, Attorney H. T. Bevans left this morning for St. Paul after hay- ing spenta couple of weeks in Bemidji, during which time he was successful in apprehending a number of alleged timber thieves. Mr: Bevans will return to this city on April 18 to look af- ter the prosecution of the men for the state auditor’s office. Patrick Connors, a pauper who has been confined to the county poor house for the past two days, was shipped to Grand Rapids this afternoon by the local authorities. Connors was taken sick with pneumonia at Northome some time ago and was turned over to the Beltrami county poor farm for treatment. His home is at Grand Rapids, however, and the authorities of Itasca county will be required to care for him. Mill Wood for Sale. During the coming summer, Wes Wright will handle all the mill wood at the Crookston Lum- ber company, having secured that right from the mill manage- ment. Wood will be delivered for $2 per load. T. J. Britt, a speacial claim agent for the Great Northern,was in Fergus Falls Tnursday look- ing up evidence relative_to, the hospital business-formerly con. ducted by Mrs, Neubery there. Mrs. Neubery has, filed a heavy claim for‘damages -against the road, alleging that she was ser- iously injured in stepping from the platform of a train at Wilton, a small Station in icinity of Bemidji. She claims that she did a very profitable business in the bealing line, and that her in- juries prevent her from continu- ing her business, and is there- fore entitled to heavy damages. Brainerd Militia Compan - Be Mustered Out—Be- midji Will Not Get It. Company F, third regimert, M. N. G., at Brainerd, is to b~ mustered out of the national guard within a few days, and a company will be organized in some other town to take its place. It is likely that Alexandria will get the company instead of Be- midji, as had been originally in- tended. Adj. Gen. Wood states that he is determined to bring all the companies of the national guard up to the standard and to weed out all the companies that take only a half-interest in the drill. It was represented that no drill has been held by Cowmpany F for the past three moaths be- cause of lack of incerest among its members. According to the state law, each company must have thirty drills a year. To get in all the drills required by law the companies must drill once a week, as no drills areheld during the summer months or the holi- day weeks in midwinter. Last Hope Vanished.
