The Japanese Peril. HERE and there an excitable person rushes into print with doleful predictions of the menace to America which Japan will be in the near future. According to these people America is likely to have to fight for itslife as soon as Japan succeeds in collecting the indemnity which it is to de mand from Russia. The only peril which we have to face Japan is the peril of com- petition. Japanis the America of the cast and there can be no doubt that it is going to bean active competitor of Americaand the nations of Europe for the trade of the orient. But as to war, Japan has conclusively de- monstrated that it is a nation that will go to every extremity before it will take up arms! In fact Japan resembles America as much in this as in other things. We have no more to fear that Japan will be seeking a fight with us than we have to fear that we will be putting a chip on our shoulders and daring Japan to knock it off. - $100 Reward, $100.
