No. The Chiropractic and the Osteopath both aim to put in place that which \is out of place, to right that which is wrong; but the Path- & ology Diagnosis, Prognosis and Movements are entirely -different, One of my patients, Mr. W. A. Casler, has taken both Chiropractic and Osteopoth treatments. The Chiropractic is ten times more direct in the adjustments and the results getting health ten times more thor- ough in one tenth of the time than an Osteopath would. | C. W. Hastings, President. F. Thomas Heflin is an un- tamed southerner who has a ton- gue in his head that is almost a match for Tillman’s, whose bitter invectives have stirred up the people more than once,” says the Mankato Free Press. ¢Heflin was elected to serve an Alabama district in congress, but he may have some difficulty in getting seated. This fellow delivered a speech in Tuskegee, during the late campaign, in which he gave vent to his. feelings, wusing the following incendiary language: “There they sat, Rooseyelt and Booker and if same Czolgosz or any of his kind had thrown a bomb under the table no great harm would have been done the country.” ““This ruffian not only gave out such a remark as is quoted above but he made other statements which brand him as one whose mind is inflamed with anarchistic doctrine. Suchalow-down brute as shis Heflin is should not be permitted to disgrace a seat in congress. Alabama must have been hard up for men when the people there picked out this fel- low to represent them in the lower house. His proper place 18 in the kennel.” For Adjustment. During the presidential cam- paign we were not very much in- terested in the tariff or in any other question except the reelec- tion of President Roosevelt. Now,however, there is a strong movement for the revision of the tariff. There can be no doubt that the tariff laws need changing, but they ought not to be revised at the hands of congress. What the country needs is a tariff com- mission that can adjust rates from time to time to meet the de- mands of business conditions. The tariff is a business ques- tion and its adjustment ought to made on business principles—not because of the victory or defeat of some political party. IT 18 pointed out that Presi- dent Réosevelt’s message to con- gress is different from the mes- sages of many presidents in that it pays small attention to political questions and deals largely with business matters. Some one has well said that the tenor of the message is, ‘““What can we do to advance the welfare of the Amer- ican people?” This was well said. And this is just the reason why Roosevelt has been reelect- ed Presidentr by the greatest ma- jority ever given any presidential candidate. THE St. Paul Pioneer Press suggests that the campaign be- tween the primary and the gen- eral election should be shortened to three weeks. This could be done and leave ample time for candidates to perform all the labor necessary. This would give the farmer relief as the army of office-seekers would not disturbhim during his busiest season. The draft on the purses of the candidates would not be so heavy. i HERE'S a legal defense for poker players: “The editor of | an Oldenburg paper was Satur- day sentenced to a year’s im- prisonment for libeling Herr Ruhstratt IT., mmister of justice to the grand duchy of Oldenburg by accusing the minister of be- ing a gambler. -The minister de- i | | | “ Pillsbury’s Best ” Sets the Pace for Flour Excellence the world over. The court decided that poker was a game of skill, and that the minis- ter had, therefore, not gambled.” Newspaper editors will please sit up and take notice. | Little Chapters From Life l A Matter of Life and Death. Itis no fun to be the coroner of Beltrami county. Of course the business of the coroner is with death and heis not supposed to have fun but it is rather more serious business in Beltrami county than in most other places. Some months ago the coroner of Beltrami county was sum- moned to the north end of the county because of a suspicion in one man’s mind that another man’s death had somewhat anti- cipated the natural course of events. A telegram got the cor- oner out at three o’clock in the morning and started him on a journey that numbered 700 miles before he sat again athis own hearthstone. Whenin the course of time the county - cashes the coroner’s expense warrant the taxpayer will have been parted from something like one hundred dollars which is about as serious a business for the taxpayer as the rest of the trip was for the coroner. Recently the coroner of Bel- trami county was summoned to Shotley. Owing to the: compul- sion of an arbitrary train service and of the law which brooks of no delay, the coroner left be- tween two days. But the train service stops short of Shotley seventeen miles. Not so the tamarack swamp, however, which pushes its wealth of mus- keg right up to the gates of the city which is not. yeta city de jure *for the reason that every man but one in the whole Shotley Brook country is a homesteader and there is but one legal resi- dent within the profound corpor- ate limits of Shotley. How to vest the complex organization of modern municipal lifé in this one man is the problem in constitu- tional government with which the good people of Shotley are grappling. Shotley is the one spot in America where the office seeks the man. One might talk of many more irrelevant things in heaven and earth only to come back and find the coroner still footing it wearily from hummock to hummock across that seventeen miles and back of shaking swamp. Through such perils and worse is the coroner of Beltrami county: compelled to win his pitiful wage, but he is accustomed to look deathin the face and perhaps it does not seem so serious to the coroner as it does to the editor sitting in his luxuriously ap- pointed sanctum languidly dic- tating editorial gems for the next day’s paper to his chief stenographer. _Notice.
