Bowker was arrested on Taestay for robbing the mails. Bowker is sixty-four years of age, and has been emplo; asa clerk in the postoffice at Boston for twenty- three years, winning the esteem of his em- ployer and associates. For nearly two years past valuable letters had fuiled to reach their destination, either going or coming through the Boston office. Special Agent Field took the matter in hand, and at length traced the irregularity to the se room,where Bow- ker was employed. The clerks were closely watched, and Bowker was seen to put letters inhis pocket. The arrest was made, word having tously been sent to Postraaster Burt, bei whom the culprit’ was brought. On his way to the Postmaster, Bowker was seen to transfer some letters from his ket to his hat, and when from compulsion he ook off his hat inthe presence his chier he letters fell upon the table. Several of the etters were found tocontain money.
