BLACK DREAMER, THE GIFTED ENG | in the city. ‘ = D astrologist, can | toned German American citizens, and Madame prema and a company of unusual strength in the new play, “What Dreams May Come.” The fact that Madame Janauschek is the greatest living actress of her type upon the stage today, and that type the highest and most noble wani- festation of the players genius, renders her appearance of unusual interest to all lovers of great acting. “What Dreams May Come”’ affords Madame Janauschek an opportunity to appear in a singular and striking character, that of the Countess Dem- itri, a Russian woman who meets her }son in London under circumstances which afford many powerful situations. The play is an absolute novelty, and while Madame Janauschek has not for years had arole of greater strength, yet the play moves forward in an at- mosphere of youth and sentiment and quiet comedy. The end is happy. The play is the work of Paul Kester who is himself nostranger to washing- ton, having lived four years at Gunston on the Potomac just below the city. The company which will appear with Madame Janauschek, includes players of such sterling worth as Ed- mund Collier, Joseph Whiting and | Myron Calice. Maude Banks who.has recently done such wonderful work in the Independ- ent Theatre in New York is also in the cast. In John Blair, to whom the part of Roger; Hazleton is entrusted, Mme. Janauschek’s management believe that they have secured the most able and gifted of all the younger leadiug men. He has but recently quitted Daniel Frohman’s forces and next season plays alternate leads with Julia Mar- lowe. Other members of the company are Misses Washburn, Miss de Wolf, Mr. Holland, Mr. ‘Layman and Mr. Hepworth. Special scenery will be used. Mr. W. H. H. Heart has ‘been ap- pointed a copyist by Recorder of Deeds Cheatham. Mr. Heart is Pro- fessor on Criminai Law, and Domestic Ralations in the Howard University Law School. Editor W. Calvin Chase will speak at Ebenezer church, tomorrow after noon. Subject: “‘Man is Responsible tor the Wrongs of Woman.”’ W. M. DRURY. Among the best known citizens in the Northwest is Mr. W. M.
