French novelties show many rib- bons in the satin merveilleux wear. The Armure weave in grenadine is preferred in Paris to the plain mesh. Parasols of black net caught down with ‘‘jewel” beads here and there makes a very pretty show. Black and three quarter jackets having the seams outlined with nar- row jet ga'loon. Half inch stripes of white or black camel’s hairon pearl gray dress materials, The Surah weave is decidedly on the increase among French novel- ties in broad silks. Faille is now combined with light weight woolen dresses, and plain satin with brocade. Felix sends out gowns of figured black crepe, with sleeves , yoke and panels of black satin, trimmed with gilt. A few French gowns show bows, knots and rows of satin ribbon for trimmings. The yellow silk Hercules braid gives nearly the effect of tinsel, and does not tarnish. The legs were slender and with au outward curve, just flected with uper shelf was thickly powdered with yellow and pink primroses, natural size. The flowers had evi. dently received a coating of amber enamel after drying, as I judged by the soft lustre they possessed. Each shelf was finally girdled by a nar- row strip of brass fret work, which was peculiarly artistic, adding much richness to this veritable litttle gem. ‘Turkish coffee tables are quite a Tage, and come in completed de- sigas. They are very beautiful, whenever placed. The handsomest ones are inlaid with mother of pearl and some witb silver. Small wicker tables are found in fanciful shapes, some bemg gilded, others bronzed in the various “fetching” tints; still others beau- tifully enameled with the new en- amel paints, which give such dain ty colors and fine gloss. Bows on tables have had their day, and gone quite of out of style. Tables are a study in these days, they come in such endless variety, in styles and shapes, sizes and prices, to suit everybody. One of the very newest is heart-shaped, and has but three legs. There are two shelves toit. Some of these heart-shaped tables are in oak, some in mahogany, while otbers are white and gold, the shelves being ivorized, the legs are of! brass, and a fiue chain of brass con | nects the two shelves of “hearts.” The latter style is very pretty for a “friendship offering,” being accom- panied, if you wish, with the fair recipient’s favorite poet, bound in white vellum. A dainty low table is of oak small and round. On the top asmall! medallion of carving is set where each of the three legs come. It is most suitable fora bric-a-brac, or a jug of fresh flowers. | A Japanese table has shelves much in the style of a Japanese cabinet, irregularly placed, giving one a chance to group pretty ob. | John A, Pierre, jects most effectively.
