PROF, WEST'S GREAT CRIME SUB END OF A CAREER OF FRAUD LYING, AND DEOBPTION, —_———— Flaver of Cooch Turner Ac- it Detective. Correspondence of Tne sun. Dover, Del., Dec. 16,—Now that the ex- cltement consequent on the unparalleled crime of Prof. Isaac Collins West has abated, It is pos- sible to reach many facta which were before unattainable. I purpose in this letter to giv you an outline of West's early career, and othei particulars never before published respecting bis later life. West is the youngest son of Mr. Isaac West, blacksmith, wheelwricht, and farmer of Balti- more Hundred, Sussex county. Mr. Wost's eldest son is dead, The second ts a sailor and rosides near his father. The third is a physician at Roxana. Isaac is the fourth. One sister is married to the Rev, Mr. McLaughlin of the Philadelphia Methodist Episcopal Conference, and the other to @ farmer in Sussex county. Isaac worked as a boy on his father's farm, at- tending @ school in the winter, Isaac was sensitive and nervous, easily excited and Im- pulsive, He bad an extraordinary liking for pything odd, and when he got hold of a curl- osity he would ponder over and examine it, and show it with enthusiasm to his neighbors, His friends considered him QUEER AND UNACCOUNTABLE. He was ambitious to excel in scholarship, and at eighteen attended Prof. Brewer's school in Milford, and afterward Prof. Reynolds's in Do- ver, He subsequently entered Dickinson Col- lege at Carlisie, Pa., and remained there four rs. On Thursday morning the SUN reporter was on hand bright and early, and so was Mr. Rogers. Soon an old woman entered. On her arin she carried alarge covered market basket; on her shoulders was a well-worn black shawl; on her head she had alarge black hood, and her body Fras encased in ataded calico dregs: Inquiring for “the cat man,” she uncovered her basket and showed three elegant specimens of Manx cata, without tails “Is it cats yo want?” tho lady asked Ina volce resembling the creak of a new pair of boots, “Here's the nolcest, foinert, darlinest cats ye fver seed.
