Then he was dropped from the machine in front of the home of the late “Bob'' Fitzsimmons, at No. 3 Kingsland Road, Nutley. Forty-five prisoners were d before Magistrate Douras in the West Side Court to-day as the result of the first day of Inspector Leahy’s crusade to “dry up Broadway.” The prisoners taken in thirty-five places, mostly saloons. A few were distharged and the rest held for further hearing. Only one of the lot was charged were with, carrying liquor on the hip. He was Lawrence Dempsey, twenty- seven, of No, 39 East 27th Street. He was arrested in a saloon at No, 886°" Sixth Avenue and the police say he was seen to place a bottle of whiskey in his pocket Henry Conners, who said he was steward at the Indian Social Club, No. 304 West 58th Street, was arrested by: Detectives Joseph Burke and William Shelley, who used a drunken man as a pilot. They found the drunk at 65th Street and Broadway and asked him where he got it. “I'M show you if you'll buy,” was the answer. Burke went with him and Shelley followed. When the drinks had been served Burke took off his hat.
