In spite of the Dundee-Frush fight in Brooklyn, 10,000 bike enthusiasts saw several hot finishes, They stayed until the last lap of the motor-paced and gave Chapman a hearty as the last pistol shot was fired. Chapman covered the route in 36 minutes and 572-5 seconds. Second to the champ was Corry, the Austral- lan, who did 24 miles and 8% laps. Verkyn, third, covered 24 miles 3% laps, and Columbatte, the Italian, did 24 miles 1 lap. Calmly maintaining that he had only followed a cave-man custom of his pedple, Ralph Sabbio, twenty-one, well-to-do and living at No. 8617 Seventa Avenue, was arrested by detectives, who awaited his appearance at the Marriage License Bureau in Brooklyn to-day on a charge of ab- dueting Tessie De Fino, nineteen and handsome, and holding her over night so that she would feel compelled to become his bride. Sabbio explained that he had known Té&sie by sight for three years and Nad long been madly in love with her, but though he had raised his hat to her many times and In various ways had tried to make her acquaintance she had never deigned to notice him. Therefore, in desperation, he adopted a last resort method lon practised in Italy of so compromising the young woman that she must marry him The crime with which Sabbio Is charged is punishable by death in many States, In this State it carries A penalty of twenty years. a Miss De Fino is the daughter of a well-to-do contractor Living at No, 100 Dahlgren Place, Fort Hamilton Ave- nue, On Monday night, about & o'clock, a little girl ran into the house and delivered a message that ‘Mar- faret wanted to see Tessie outside.’ Miss De Fino went to the sidewalk. A sedan car was in front of the house. Two men seized her and threw her inside. Her brother, nine years old, witnessed tho attack and ran yelling into the house. By the time her family had reached the pavement she was gone. The police were informed and the brother told them Sabbio was one of the men who forced his sister into the car. All yesterday the Marriage License Bureau was watched and to-day the guess of Detectives English, McGlone and Conroy proved to be correct. With the girl on the verge of hysterics and her face and throat scratched, Sibblo led her into the burean Arrested and the young woman taken from him, he calmly told his story. Sabbio was born in this country and was in the United States service during a part of the war, His father, a street cleaner, by frugality and careful investments has become the owner of four tenements in Brooklyn. Sabbio himself is a partner in the Brooklyn Merchants’ Protective A: sociation, which furnishes night watchmen to stores and shops and men for patrol duty. Op Monday night, he says, he de- cided the only way to win the girl was to carry her off and arranged for $50 with a man named Angelo, whose other name he says he does not know, to help him, Following the abduc- tion the car was driven to a lonely spot on Kings, Highway and Sabbto was left for a time with the girl, who had never ccased to battle with him. Several hours later, he says, they were driven to the home of a rela- tive, where the girl, with her clothes torn from her and her throat bearing the marks of choking, was given into the custody of a relative, with whom she remained for the night, while her abduetor talked the matter over with the male relative. Yesterday Sabbio remained out of sight and new clothes were purchased for the gi It was expluined to her hat in view of what had happened it was best that she consent to the mar- ring In her statement to the police, Tes- ste said that on the night of the at- tack the mother and father of Sat were sent for and they too argued for the marriage.
