A ee WHOLE TRBUTE TOFLAG ONITS BIRTHDAY Children and Patriotic Socie- ites Hold Celebrations in All Boroughs. ‘The skyline of New York In all {te five boroughs was gorgeously colored Tippled in « southerly breeze. From Public places, office buildings and homes the Stars and Stripes of the United States flew proudly. Cere- Monies and exercises were held by patriotic societies and public kchools. Tt was the 145th birthday of the Amivrican flag. The services and the display of the flag were in commemo- ration of this resolution that John Adams introduced in Congress June ¢ 14, 1777: “The flag of the thirteen United States shall be thirteen stripes, alter- Rate red and white; the Union, thir teen stars, white on a blue field, rep- resenting a new constellation." With but one change, the same flag the founders of this country adopted more than a century ago bathed in the light yesterday. The thirteen stripes are still a part of our flag, but forty-cight stars are now in the field. The most picturesque gathering of the day took place in City Hall Park, where 1,000 school children, each bearing a flag, marched from Fraun- ees's Tavern, where Washington made his farewell address to his officers, to the park, where the Sons of the Revolution had charge of ceremonies. The Sons of the Revolution marched from their headquarters, Broad and Pearl Streets, to the park, where the Nathan Hale monument was unveiled at its new location and a new flag raised to the top of the Liberty .
