Charles Herman, part owner of a Gelicatessen at No. 116 Manhattan Avenue, his clerk, Morris Schaffer, eighteen years old, and six customers were held up in the store early this morning by three armed thugs who, after robbing the customers, handed to each a fifty-cent piece, remarking, “This is for carfare.” After they had gone through the pockets of the men a woman entered. To her one of the thugs sald: “Don't be afraid, madam; we won't harm you, We've got enough." ‘Then the thugs jumped into a walt- ing automobile, sped through 107th Street, toward Central Park West, and escaped. As the automobile started off Schaffer ran out to the street, blowing a police whistle. One of the thugs turned in the car and fired two shots at him, but without effect. The thugs had entered the store with drawn revolvers and ordered “hands up!"" “We're here for business,’ sald ‘and want all the dough you've Morris Rogan, twenty-six years old, of No. 15 West 107th Street, didn’t act quick enough, so one of the thugs hit him in the face with a revolver, inflicting a wound an ambulance sur- geon was called to dress.
