BURGLAR CHASE ROUSES SLEEPERS Bullets Fly as West Side Bandits Flee and Leave Loot in Street. ‘Thiee policemen, in an early morn- ing chase, frustrated a clothing and fur robbery on tho west side and fired dozens of shots, but did not succes! in capturing three burglars. Residents of Tenth Avenue, Fifty-fifth and Vifty-sixth Streets were aroused from their sleep. The policemen, Martin Gillen, George Guyser and Rudolph Kerch- off, all of the West 47th Street Station, easirned to strike duty in front of the Sheffield Farms plant on West 57th Street, wee notified by a taxi driver that three men were at 10th Avenue with a load éf fur and clothing. The policemen were seen as soon as they turned the corner and the men ran. Two of the burglars darted into No. 504 West 55th Street, ran through the house, dodging bullets, across the roof and to safety in the dark. The other escaped in an alley. The po- licemen returned and found twenty- eight men’s suits, thirty fur pieces and many fur-lined overcoats. No report of such a robbery had been received at’ that time.
