CQURT GETS “WL” INMAL OF WIDOW GONFESING FRAUD Pencilled Document Purports to Dispose of Fortune of Mrs. Easton. The Surrogate’s Court in Brooklyn received to-day through the mail, ‘anonymously, a pencilled document ‘which purports to ‘be the last will of (Mrs. Margaret Easton, a recluse, who @ied a month ago at the age of eighty-five of starvation in a squalid house at No. 90 Putnam Avenue, ‘Brooklyn, which she owned. Bank- ‘books representing deposits of $171,000, ash to the amount of $1,671 and jew- elry valued at $25,000 were found among her effects. The alleged wil mentions a daugh- ‘ter whose name has not heretofore figured in the case. In the docu- ment, which is misspelled, interlined and in places almost illegible, Mrs. Easton was made to confess that she |‘ tore up and burn a will left by her ‘husband, James Easton, when he died im 1911, in which he bequeathed his fortune to his daughter. Allen McDonald, Arline McDonald mad Mrs. Lawrence Sweeney of N>. 351 West Kingsbridge Road, the Bronx, appeared after Mrs. Easton's death and claimed her property on proof they are children of a brother of Mrs, Easton, The McDonalds were appointed administrators of the es tate under bond of $25,000. John H. McCooey, clerk of the Surrogate's Court, found the docu- ment in his mail this morning, It bore on the envelope the inscription, “Found by an outsider who does not want to be mixed in the case, in the hall at 7709A Putnam Street.” There is no Putnam Street in Brooklyn and no such number in Putnam Avenue. By the terms of the alleged will, which is written on a printed form, the contents of two trunks and a valise and the jewelry possessed by Mrs. Easton are left to her nieces “Allene and Marie.’ “My house which I now live in on Putnam Street and the money on de- posit is to go to my husband's dangh- ter, Josephine, who lives somewhere in Ohio." the will specifies. “This will is drawn by John V. Bacot, with my hand holding the pen- cil, for I am not able to write. I was at outs always with Josephine and my deceased husband willed her his money in 1911 and I tore the will up and burned it and am sorry for all I dia and said, and now I confess it is all wrong and there must be no fussing over this will, for what I have done I have done.” The residue of the estate is left by the terms of the will to “Josephine Johnson.” It is dated June 3, 1921, and the names of John V. Bacot and Samuel Clark are signed to it as wit- torney,” is named as administrator. Mr. McCooey sent formal notice of the receipt of the alleged will to the McDonalds. a ey DROWNED WOMAN CLAD IN PAJAMAS RECOVERED Body Believed to Be That of Mere, Freda Fleigel.
