THE NEW PLAYS | “Come Seven” An. Amusing Sketch By CHARLES DARNTON N_ all-blackface cast gave Rovelty to “Come Seven" at the Broadhurst Theatre last hight, and the humor of the acters made the curious experiment a happy one so far as laughter went. From ‘his darkey stories Octavus Ray Cohen has contrived an amusing aketeh, stretched a bit thinly into three acts, yet for the most part en- tertaining nonsense, ‘The thread of Plot runs through a diamond ring that a lazy crapshooter takes from his wife's trunk and intrusts to an enterprising friend “who raises enough money on it to buy a badly used automobile’ that he then pro- ceeds to sell at a good profit, The substitution of a ring with a glass setting brings about complications too numerous to mention, When the various deals are concluded the hard-working, hard-headed wife re- gains her precious ring and also compels the speculators to hand over the greater share of the proceeds. Lucille La Verne made the wife rich in humor and withered the luck less Urias with her scorn as said: “He kin do nuthin’ longe better than any man I evah saw. At other tines her pealing laughter was part of a capitally realized char- acter, Miss La Verne covered her- aélf with glory as well as burnt cork. Arthur Alsworth was consistently droll! as the somewhat pessimistic Urias who suspected the instigator of the scheme of “sniffing happy dust” when that individual held out glowing promises. Earle Fox talked glibly as the financial agent and danced cleverly with a haughty lady from Palm Beach, and Charles W.
