Ss he Sane: ARRAS SOMIST PARTY | AS TRAITOR’ BAND Summing Up at Albany, He Says Members Are “In U. S., but Not of It.” - PONBE ALBANY, March 4.—Arraigning de Socialist Party. of America as a “disloyal party, disgraced by per- petual traitors,” Martin Conboy to- day began summing up for the “pros- egution” in the assembly investiga- tion of the suspended Socialist members. Mr. Conboy charged that the So- cialist Party of America is allied with the Sparticides of Germany and the Communists of Russia in pledging {ts support to internationalism and opposing nationalism. He reviewed briefly the first and second internationales, citing their downfall with the Franco-Prussian and World Wars respectively, and five all countries remained loyal to their | governments during those wars ex- | cept the Socialist Party of America. Citing the Socialist platform of 1917, Conboy said that what has happened since that time, the party declaring its support of the Russian Soviets and adopting resolutions not to participate in any internationalism which did not include the Russian Communists, positively indicated that the Socialist Party of America is not loyal to the United States. “This committee must determine how to treat a group of men who are in the United States but not of it, who take all they can get but will not give a life or a dollar to support it,” he de- clared. He insisted that a Socialist, being pledged to oppose appropriations for the support of State militia, could not take the constitutional oath of office without a “lie upon ips.” “He who makes the laws of America must hav> patriotism in his heart,” deolared Mr. Conboy.
