Didur as Boris snumdn » wadience QUAKE OE A iDEN LANE 7_}} || And New Singers At Metropolitan By Sylvester Rawling. OUSSORGSKY'S “Boris Godu- noff” was added to the reper- tory of the season at the Met- Topolitan, Opera House last night. Again the commanding quality of Adamo Didur’s impersonation of Boris ‘was impressed upon us. It is a rare bit, in fact a masterpiece of charac- terization. The spell of the death ®oene is as poignant as ever. The audience sat in silence until the cur- tains closed. There were new singers in the cast. Gabriella Besanzoni, who made her debut last week as Amneris, was Marina. She was charming to look wpon and she sang well, but she! hasn't quite mellowed info the part. Orville Harrold for the first time was Dimitri. He, too, sang well; that is, when Mr, Papi, who conducted, would permit him to be heard. The over- strenuousness of the orchestra was @ handicap not only to Mr. Harrold but to all the principal singers and even to the chorus, which holds a on's share of the opera. Louise Berat as the Innkeeper, Octave Dua aa the Slmpleton, both formerly of the Chicago Opera Company, and Adeline Vosari as Xenia were the other new comers. De Segurola as the bibulous priest Varlaam, a fine sketch; Kothier as Brother Pimenn, Bada as Schouisky, Raymonde Delaunois as Teodora, and Flora Perini as the Nurse ‘were familiar. In the cast also were Mario Laurenti, Pietro Audisio, Louis D'An- gelo, Vincenzo Reschiglian, Millo Pieco and Giordano Paltrinierl, The stirring choruses were as well and a8 sonorously sung as ever. “Robin Hood” was revived‘by the American Singers at the Park Thea- tre last night, and the musical num- bers which go to torm the De Koven ‘igh mark in light opera were ren- dered with a vim and volume worthy ot men Ale” flowed in melodious defia of the Eighteenth Amendment, War Prohibition and the Volstead Act, and the “Armorer’s Song,” the “Oh, Prom- ise Me.” the chorus of tin verenade, crow, r9, the song of the old bi: all were rendering of the opera, to the role and nk Moulan, Will Danforth was the’ Sheriff, Caldwell was Annabel, Kate Condon was lame Burden ‘and Herbert Waterous was Win Scarlett.
