His firm has a capi- tal of $500,000,000 and its shares are distributed among 86,000 persons. At the last meeting of Lever Bros. he announced the adoption of plans for a six-hour workday, with two shifts of men, one to work from 7 A. M. to 1 P.M. In order that the afternoon workers may have Satur- day afternoons off they work seven hours and twelve minutes a day for five days, making up their thirty-six- hour week.
