| (ar Fane ae " (a ah nh HOME PAGE Daily Magazine | THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16, By Rev. Thomas B. Gregory Copyright, 1919, by The Press Publishing Co. (The New York Evening World.) re " Time Is the Capital of Achievement—You i Never Regain the Hours Thrown Away ~ N the autobiography of a famous physician is the following story: A certain boy drooped so alarmingly in health that his mother concluded she must have the doctor see him. The doctor, after a thorough ex- amination of the boy, was able to find nothing the matter with him, But there was the fact that he was pining away, losing his appetite, creeping about languidly, and giving great distress to his mother. doct replied the mother, “he has only to bring a pail of water every day from the spring on the mountain side, but he dreads it all day, and does not bring it until near dark.” i “Have him bring it the first thing in the morning,” was the doctor's order. The mother tried it and the boy got woll. Putting it off made the job prey on the boy’s mind. Doing it at-once cured him. Tt is a prescription of sovereign efficacy—DO IT NOW! No matter what it may be that you have to do, do it at ones. A wise man indeed was he who said, “Delays are dangerous.” The danger of putting things off, of postponing to to-morrow the tasks that should be performed to-day, is seen on every hand, Mexico is the richest country in the world by nature, and yet the Mexicans are among the most backward and miserable of peoples. Why? Because they are always saying Manana—"To-morrow.” Three hundred years ago Spain was the greatest nation on the planet, as great as England is to-day; and how shall we explain her pitiable decline? That word Manana tells the whole story. Her motto was “Do It To-Morrow,” and the result was she never did it at all; while England's motto was “Do It Now,” and tt was done, The great fortunes that have never been made, the splendid fames that have never been achieved, the wonderful books that have néver been written, the much-needed reforms in individual lines and national policies that did not come until it was too late—all because of the absence of that invincible rule, “Do It Now.” When all is said, the capital out of which all achievement comes ts Do It Now! | You Beat It! “What does your son do?
