The Grolier Club, No, 47 East 60th Street, is showing until April 20 a notable gathering of prints by Edouard Manet, the great French painter, from the collections of club members and from other sources. This is the first representative ex-|—— hibition of Manet’s work as an etcher and lithographer to be held im this untry. One of the gems of the present ex- nibition is the original water color for “Chapeau et Guitare,” done in colors, By this, in the exhfbition frame, is the etching as derived fram the col- ored sketch. “Les Gitanos” and “Le Guitariste,” representing some of his earlier work and in fine impressions, are typical prints by Manet in this exhibition. The action in both is most excellent. There are six prints of Philip IV. after Velasquez. Another feature of the Grolier Club's showing Hes in the five illus trations from “Le Fleuve,” by Charles Cros as executed by Manet. Certain wood cuts he did are other exhibition units. An excellent imitation of Goya by Manet appears in his etching entitled Fleur Exotique.” One of the best examples of Manet’s lithographs {8 shown in “L'Execution which was suppressed for political reasons, “Les Courses,” exemplifies Manet's impressionism. lilustrations from Edgar Poe's “Le (The Raven), as translated five in num- ber, are by Manet.
