J., Feb. 18.— George Henry Roberts wept to-day amid the ruins of art objects that he loved as other men love their families and friends, For a fire that swept through the studio building at Nos. 585 to 593 Main Street, this city, had oe destroyed paintings for which wealthy collectors had offered small fortunes in vain and which had come to mean all that Roberts knew of Home, Roberta has spent years tutoring singers for the operatic and concert stage. Bessie Abbott, who died recent- ly, was one of his pupils and there were others who have gained fame. Roberts never married and his only Interests in life were his service to art and his gradually accumulated collection of masterpieces of painting and sculpture, many of them gifts | from artists he had helped to success Until a year or so ago Roberts a studio in Boston.
