Lights were used sparingly at the Empire Theatre last night in “A Kiss for Cinderella,” given elins. Miss Adams ts loyal to Barrte and we are loyal to her. Still, there is a limit to loyalty, Frankly, I believe ] that Barrie, in this instance, owes everything to Miss Adams. It is she alone who makes his latest senti- mental output possible in this =| try. “A Kiss for Cinderelia” 1s only an’ excuse for a play, It makes uso of } war orphans, the censor and a dark- ened city in @ whimsical sort of way | that 1s naturally remote to us. So far as imagination goes It 1s nothing Fi more than a cockney fairy tale—the old story of Cinderella told in a dia-| lect to which London still clings. This | is all very well in its way—pe we have been too ready to forget own Rowery for stage purposes. ‘Tho most amusing scene is that of a court ball as conceived in the mind of @ little cockney who 1s convinced that her feet will carry her through ‘the night.
