OWN on the Mexican border, where the sun is blistering hot and where life is almost a tormenting existence, more than 100,000 of our civilian soldiers are ‘doing their duty.” D There, far away from home and friends, these volunteers in the Nation’s cause are putting in twenty-four hours a day of the dull monotony of camp life. These young men come from our cities and towns. Some of them you know. They are accus- tomed to good homes and to the same pleasures which you enjoy. Here lectures and concerts and “movies” are the counter-attractions which offset the saloons and gambling dens and worse places which a military camp naturally invites, Here a never-failing barrel of ice-water is on tap. These branch Associations are a center of good moral influence in each camp—for these sons and brothers and friends of yours.
