His advertisement will be read by readers who have ability to buy and whose wants are numerous and constant. In New York City, the country "3 greatest market, THE WORLD'S circulation every morn- ing is over 100,000 greater than that of any other newspaper; greater than the combined city circulations of the Times, Herald and Tribune. The Evening WORLD is the newspaper of the homes, presenting an advertising opportunity not equalled in New York. C, Lundy came inté Sheepshead Bay last evening with a dead seven- foot, 360-pound shark aboard, which was exhibited on the fishing pier to pri ing their victim so that he becomes helpless. There is the possibility that the body of little Lester Stillwell was de- voured by the shark. With the double purpose of causing his body to rise to the surface and of killing the shark, if it still lurked in the creek, dynamite was exploded in the stream at intervals for two and a half miles from Raritan Bay to the head of the creek, half a mile above Matawan, without result. Men in boats went to the wider parts of the creek above the village and prodded the deeper holes in the bottom with poles and spears, Many believe the shark passed out of the creek into Raritan Bay on the high tide after attacking the Dunn boy, The tide was high when Capt. Cottrell saw the shark working up the creek, There was then about fourteen feet of water in the stream, which is about thirty feet wide when the tide is up, The tide was out this forenoon, leaving about eight feet of water, so that the heavy nets which were stretched at Keyport, the mouth of the creck, and at Matawan closed the trap completely. At high tide the nets did not reach to the bottom, #o the shark had plenty of time to get away, All ordinary occupations in Key- port and Matawan was suspended to-day and the communities were devoting themeelves to the shark hunt, It is believed the eea-wolf will return when hungry again, and hun- dreds of big hooks have been baited and thrown into the creek in the hope of catching him, Little Lester Stillwell, brother and Albert swimming when th appearance at Close’s Dock, The big fish struck O'Hara with its tall, hurl- ing him about ht feet into the air, Then it made a dash for Stillwell, Joseph Fisher, on the pier, turned at the sound and saw a fin cutting hundreds of spectators last night, Lundy and his patrons, like all other deep-sea fishermen th: jummer, have been annoyed by the unusual number and voracity of the sharks along the coast, which frequently snatch fish from the lines of the fishermen and frighten away promising schools of sea bass and black fish, Lundy baited a cotton hook with a fat sea bass yesterday and angled for one of the maurauders on the New England Banks, three miles off Sea- bright. Everybody on board joined in the fight to get the big shark aboard, but were unsuccessful until Lundy had ended the creature's life with blows of the fire axe, Lundy took tho shark out to sea td-day to throw it overboard, —_—>+— 20 SHARKS CAUGHT BY CREW OF SLOOP IN TWELVE DAYS The waters of the Atlantic sea board are infested with sharks. The British sloop Sir George Somers ar- rived from Bermyda to-day with a score of sharks the crew had caught in the gulf stream during the twelve days’ voyage to this port. The last was caught off the Jorsey coast day before yesterday. ‘The crew said the big fish were nu- merous and hungry. They followed, the ship and snapped viciously at bait.
