Ten families were assisted down jthe rear fire-escape during a blaze fearly to-day at No. 11% West Eighty- fourth Street, a five-story@rownstone apartment house near Central Park ‘West. Policemen, assisted by J. Biackburne Miller, Commodore of the Columbia Vaocht Club, got everybody @ut before the firemen arrived. Com- modore Miller received slight burns a the face and hands and his mus tache was singed, but he @ clined the services of an ambulance surgeon. ‘The fire started tn the cellar, prob- ably from paints and other inflam- mable materials left by painters.| Peter Lind, a watchman, saw the, Blaze and called Policemen Kennedy and Rooney, of the West Sixty-eighth | Street Station.
