A fire to-day in an old five story building at the southwest corner of Chambers ang Church streets caused the Church street wall to bulge out so far that Deputy Fire Chief Binns ordered the street closed to traffic, Policemen stationed at Warren and Chambers streets kept pedestrians out of the Church street block and the Building Department was notified to eend experts to shore up the danger spot. * The ground floor of the building in occupied by a lunch counter, a cigar store and some small retail concerns. ‘The Howard Glass Company is the tenant of the four upper floors. The fire started on the fourth floor and spread rapidly through piles of straw and wooden pecking boxes. As is customary in case of fire in the district where the buildings are old and ramshackle the firemen pro- ceeded to drown out the blaze with all the water\ they could pour into the building.
