TOTALKON SUFFRAGE. ORS ON PLATIRN Finally Tells Votes for Women Delegates He May Attend Meeting To-Morrow Night ALBANY, June 6—Gov. Glynn to- day declined the invitation of women euffragists to speak at their meeting here to-morrow night. The Governor told the delegation which called for his answer that he was not opposed to woman suffrage and that he thought “It was coming,” but added that he did not feel the time was rips for him as the Chief Executive of the State to participate in a public demonstration. The women then told the Governor that reports were current that he might be a candidate for United States Senator in the near future and that all indications now pointed to women having the right to vote when that time arrived, The executive made no comment on this phase of the proposition, The Governor first was naked to deliver an address on suffrage. When this invitation was declined the com- mittee requested him to speak “and hot mention the suffrage qhestion in any of its phases.” Upon his declin- ing aagin he was requested merely to preside at the meeting, but an- other declination followed. He finally was asked to atten as a private citi- zen and sit on the platform. In the end the Governor said he might pos- sibly find time to atten the meeting but he would not occupy a seat of) prominence. | Mins Elsie Vandegrift of Denver did most of the talking for the suffra- giants, Miss Ruth Leonard, Mrs. An- drew MacFarlane, Mrs. Edward Dev- ery and Mrs, Edward Katon of Al- bany were other members of tho delegations. SQUANDERED $20,000 OF HIS AUNT'S MONEY AND THEN TOOK POISON Lawyer Frank H. Cothern Died Penniless and Death No Longer a Mystery. The mystery surrounding the sud- den death of Frank H. Cothern, a leading lawyer, of No. 2 Rector street, was cleared up to-day when it de- veloped that he had embezaled $20,000, the entire fortune of his aunt, Mrs. Alice Cothern of Broad street, Red Bank, N. J. Cothern took an overdose of mor- phine last Friday in the bathroom of his home, No, 173 South Oxford atreet, Brooklyn, after his fortune and the money of his aunt, it now appears, had been swept away through the failure of investments made by him in Mexico, Cothern was his aunt's favorite and trusted nephew, and when she desired to invest $2,000 several months aso she sought his advice. She told him of her intention to draw the money from her account tn a bank in Red Bank, but he persuaded her to draw the $2,000 from the five New York banks in which she was 4 depositor, and she handed over to him her flyve New York books and gave him power of attorney to act for her. Recently she wrote to her nephew asking him to return the bank books so that she could ascertain the con- dition of her accounts, Her request was unanswered and after writny twice more, she wrote to the banks in question and learned that of the $20,000 she had deposited in them an hggregate balance of only $15 re- mained, After a visit from his aunt during which he confessed her money was lost Cothern went to his home and took the fatal dose, ——— FREE BATHING SUIT PATTERN.
