Notes of the Maine Railways Companies, due April 1, 1919. Attention is called to the statements in the Company's circular of May 15, 1914, that it is necessary that substantially all Boston and Maine Notes now cuatenaing, amounting to $27,- 000,000, must be extended or exchanged for new notes. Only the assent of the Noteholders will save the Company from a Receivership, By order of the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors. The Governor mét none of the local poll- ticlans except John H. McCooey of Brooklyn, who wants Mr. Glynn to |epeak at a Flag, celebration over |. National Chair- leComba, who lives Governor stopped while in New York, éxpected! to eall; but the Governor's hasty return prevented the meeting. Mr, Glynn declined to comment fur- ther on his appointment of Robert C. Wood to the Publle Service Commis- sion. He was nct willing to give out the names of Mr. Wood's sponsors and contented himself with merely stating the new Commissioner had been highly recommended by individuals whose judgment he accepted. “I cannot say that anything of polit- {eal importance has developed in con- nection with my visit here,” said the Governor at the station. “I'm hur- rying back to work.” The Governor was asked if: he had decided definitely as to his candidacy for the Governorship. He met the question with a emile, but did not | choose to make his intention known. But while Mr. Glynn was non- | committal on the eubject, friends whom he met yesterday were con- vinced to-day that he is eager to | submit his record as New York's business Governor to the voters this | fall. In this desire it is said he te not influenced in the slightest by the | prospect of a coalition of the Repub- lican and Progressive forces. | there are three tickets in the feld | his friends are sure of his re-election, his chances may be somewhat dimin- jahed, but by no means made hope- less. |. From confidential sources it was) learned to-day that Charles F. Murphy has expressed himself as not favorable | \to Mr. Glynn's nomination. Since the Sulzer impeachment “The Chief" has let himself believe that no hope of} success for the Democratic party at the fall elections is in view. ‘This con- viction, his intimates say, has been the {compelling reason why he has not |made any’ move to eliminate himself | as the lone boss of the party. One thing that Murphy has viewed with favorable eyes is the candidacy of William Church Osborn, Chairman of the Demooratic State Committes, for the United States Senate. Mr. Osborn is a candidate. and placed } himself on record early. Thee Osborn-Glynn combination finds support in Democratic circles where the qualifications of candi- dates are sounded out before much is said either way. Glynn's achieve- ments, including the Working Men's Compensation Act, the Masachusetts Primary law and particularly his economic administration of the State's budiness are said by men who have seen him in New York to con- vince Mr. Glynn that he has won a nomination on his merits, |REMORSE DROVE HIM TO Took Poison Twice and Failed, Then Jumped Into Quarry and Finally Before Train. LISLE, Ul, May 26.—Reginald A. enoe Bentley at Downers Grove, three miles from here, last Saturday night was accidental, jumped beneath a moving train here early to-day and was killed. It was hin fourth attempt at eul- cide. In the note he said that he took a drug twice, in an effort to die beside the body of his sweetheart, bat both times failed. In desperation he next jumped into @ quarry pit but fell into a pool of water and “I couldn't sink” said the note. The clothing on his body was atill wet when taken from the tracks. The note said that M Rentley was killed when he tried t kise her, She screamed and he placed his hand ever her mouth. . In the ensuing struggle they tripped and fell, He believed her neck was broken; any- way she was dead, In an agony of remorse and fear he eat beside her for some time seeking to find a spark of life, Finally he gave up hope and went to Aurora, where he purchased poison. He re- turned and lying beside the girl's body, swallowed it. After awhile he woke up. Again note, and again returned with poison, This attempt also was a failure.
