SPORTSMEN PLAN HUGE ICE PALACE FOR PARK AVENUE tving Brokaw Leads Move to Build Rink Patterned on European Lines. Irving Brokaw, who has won in- @rnational fame as a fancy ice eater, has interested several wealthy in @ project to build in New jork a winter sports palace mod- Med on the famous Admiralspainst Berlin, the Palais de Giace of Paris Prince’s Rink in London. Mr, announced his plan at a last night at Sherry’s. Those who discussed it with him 24 displayed enthusiasm for his idea T. R. Pell, Miflin Wharton, ir, Griawold Thomp- erry, George T. Brokaw, an, W. Bruce Brown, aH ) Julian Curtiss, Richard feters, James Bortron, Whitney War- en, F. Eldridge, James Laurence Charles D. Wetmore, Alonzo tter, Austen Gray, F. C. B. Roche, C. Dickinson, Blakeman Q. Meyer, lugh Inman, Max Behr, 8. F. Nave 6. H. P. Pell. A plot 200 feet in width on the side of Park avenue, between rty-fifth and Forty-sixth streets, vas tentatively proposed as a site. Mr. Brokaw estimated that the struction and equipment of the pal: would cost between $300,000 and $400,000, It was thought that the palace might be operated on a proprietary club basis, but Mr. Brokaw suggested that it must not be made unreason- ably exclusive if it were to be « finan- cial and popular success. The public {se to be admitted on certain days of the week by payment of an admission charge. Life memberships will be offered for $1,000 without bonds or members may subscribe to bonds and Day $50 annual dues. These were the plans as tentatively worked out. Richard Peters was made chairman of a committee to perfect them. “We propose to have a rink,” said Mr. Brokaw, “where a perfect system of heating and cooling will permit visitors to dine on a platform slightly raised above the ice while they view @ cabaret, a ballet or even a short one-act play performed on the ice. “Of course skating will be the chief use to which the rink will be put, but we will have a seating arrange- ment for 3,000 persons so that col- lege hockey matches and matches be- tween clubs and schools may be held. “The idea now is for a five-story club with ice plant, men's rooms, a plunge, lockers and toilet facilities in the basement. On the main Goor @ dancing room and ac- commodations for dinners and after- noon teas as well as the rink itself, which we plan to make 80 by 100 feet, and above these reading rooms, writing rooms, dressing rooms, baths rooms exclusively for women. ‘On the roof we plan to have a olay tennis court and a curling rink ‘The best string orchestra obtainable will be employed, #o that the palace may have a reputation for fine music as well as for sports and dancing. “IT am satisfied that such a palace could be made to pay and be an at- traction to our city.” —>—____ 16 Plague Cases in Havana.
