Hofmann Plays | At Fifth Concert Of Beethoven By Sylvester Rawling. HE Beethoven Festival which Walter Damrosch and his Symphony Orchestra are giv- ing at Aeolian Hall reached its fifth concert last night. It was the most Successful cf the series, with the crowded house aroused to a high water mark of enthusiasm by the i superb playing of Josef Hofmann in ) the piano concerto in KE flat. Rarely has Mr. Hofmann been heard to better advantage. His continence was as worthy of praise as his remarkable technique, und the sheer beauty of his tone was irresistible. Mr. Damrosch and his musicians, too, were at their best. They pre- sented the seventh symphony with fine appreciation of its spirit and with more than usual virility, The over- ture to “Coriolanus” at the beginning! #3 mado the regular programme, but, yielding to the persistent apy the audience at the end, Mr. rosch permitted Mr, Hofmaan to play two of Beethoven's Nghter composi- Vons as extra numbers. Not a good precedent, Mr, Damrosch! The Washington Irving High School Chorus of 1,000 girls, under the direction of Wilhelm Mattfeld, made the feature last night of the second concert in the Carnival of Music at the Madison Square Gar- den. Among the numbers they sang Were “The Star. ngled “My Heart ReJot from us,” fon fea.” The childret gratulated upon t ing of Mr. Mattfe clally for their cleanness in a Furred Tongue, Bad Taste, Indiges: tion, Sallow Skin and Miserable Head- aches come from a torpi er and con- stipated bowels, which cause your stomach to become filled with vadigested | ¥ urs and sforments like CANDY to CENT ay Ads cARY uy PRUG STORE V.
