SPRECKELS IS SUED ON REFUSAL TO PAY “INDERVEGT” DUTY Federal Won’t Compromise Govern- Sugar ment’s $119,080 Demand. Having collected from the American Sugar Refin! Company, (06,20 from Arbuckle Bros, and $004,304 from the National Sugar Refining Com- Pany tn customs sults, mainly for un- derwelghing cargoes, the Department of Justice brought sult on the same ac- count yesterday for $119,080.98 against tho Federal Sugar Refining Company. Marshal William Henkel served the @ummons and complaint on Claus A. Spreckels, President, at the company’s offices at No. 138 Front street. The complaint charges underwelghing of cargoes from 1902 to 1909. Collector Loeb furnished the figuros at the time that he compiled his findings against the other companies. Mr. Spreckels was then notified, and notices and demands were served on him from time to time afterward.
