The Flonzaley Quartet gave the first | of its season's concerts at Carnegie Lyceum last night and charmed a large | audience by beautiful playing. The pro- | gramme consisted of Haydn's quartet in @ major, op. 17; Maurice Ravel's quar- tet and Boccherini's quartet in A major. Each number was presented tn admir- | able fashion by the four accomplished musicians who make up the quartet— A@olfo Bett!, Arst violin; Alfred Pochon, @econd violin; Ugo Ara, viola, and Iwan D’Archambeau, ‘cello. In the afternoon there were no less than three concerts, at which not even @ music reviewer who was a Marathon runner could be present throughout. At Ramfort Hall Arthur Whiting, at the harpsichord, gave one of his fascinating unlversity recitals of seventeenth and and eighteenth century music, assisted by Constance Edson, violinist; George Barrere, flautist, and Paul Keefer, viola 4a gamba. @ programme included a sonata in jor by ( relli, for violin, flute and harpsichord; a sonata in D major for | viola da ba and harpsichord and four dances for {.e harpsichord alone by Bach; a sonata for flute and/ harpsichord in B minor by Handel and & concluding sonata by Purcell for all four instruments that was delicious, @imultaneously, George Harris jr, an American tenor, gave recital at the Harris Theatre at which he disclosed @ voice of quality, well trained, that | Pleased an audience of fair size. Verdi, Schubert, Mozart, Strauss, Brahms, Wolf and Massenet songs were on his, programme.
