(Special From a Staff Correspondent of The Evening World. - ALBANY, Jan. 19.—Although William F, Sheehan lost two more votes in to-day’s ballot in joint session for United States Senator he is confident of election. The Evening World correspondent put this direct question this afternoon to Mr. Sheehan: “Do you still expect to be elected Senator?” “Yes,” was the reply, given with emphasis. The ballot in which Mr. Sheehan lost the two votes brought two new candidates into the field. They are Morgan J, O’Brien of New York and Jonn D. Kernan of Utica, former Railroad Commissioner and a son of the man of that name who was once United States Senator, Kernon received two votes and O'Brien one. For the second time the Legislature met in joint session and failed to select a candidate to succeed Chauncey M, Depew. William F, Sheehan, the Democratic caucus nominee, who received the greatest number of votes, was twelve short of the majority of those present and voting. In the vote to-day he was only seven votes ahead of ‘is Re- publican opponent, Chauncey M, Depew. After the result of to-day’s ballot was announced the joint ion adjourned until to-morrow.
