os ) THE EVENING WORLD, M DENA LON OF RBI'S HOARD WNFEDERAL EOURT Suit to Make Bankwrecker Dis- gorge Property He Deeded to Trusted Ones. NOTE JUGGLERY CITED. Petitioners Declare Hamilton Bank Purchase in 1908 Was by Irregular Method. Phe Stnte Department of Banking, acting in the interest of the %,000 de- positors of the Northern Bank and the $6,000 depositors of the Washington Sav- ings Bank, to-day began legal proceed- ings against Joseph G. Robin to invall- date transfers of property made by the skyrocket financier previous to the crash of his chain of banks and cor- porations, which property is “believed to be worth approximately $1,000,000." Rollins & Rollins, lawyers, acting for Deputy Superintendent of Banking A. K. Alford, of the Northern Bank; Deputy Superintendent of Banking Gor- don Smith, of the Washington vings Bank, and H. Gerald Chapin, a lawyer of New Roohelle, as petitioning credit- ome, to-day filed a petition in Involuntary dankruptcy in the United States Dis- trict Court, asking that Robin be de- clared a bankrupt. Judge Hough appointed Peter Alex- ander as recetver in the bankruptcy pro- coe@ing against Robin and fixed the bond at $10,000. Charges Against Robin. Here is the charge that Robin has been trying to get rid of his property for the benefit of a few: That within four months preced- ing the filing of this petition, to wit, on or about the 24th day of Decem- ber, 1910, the said Robin while tn- solvent, committed an act of bank- Fuptey, in that he did by an instru- ment in writing and by various in- dorsements of stock, transfer and @eliver to creditors of said Joseph G. Robin, whose names are un- known to your petitioners, shares of stock of corporations and bonds !s- sued by divers corporations and mher securities, all the property of aid Robin, for the purpose of pre- ferring sald creditors over other creditors of said Robin, and for the Purpose of enabling said creditors to Procure a large percentage of the Indebtedness due to them from said Robin than other creditors could procure, The Evening World, some days ago, told how Robin, on Dec, 28 last, trans- ferred .is beautiful country home at Wading River, L. I., valued at $500,000 to his sister, Dr. Louise Robinovitch. Other attempts to get his property into the hands of persons he trusted are known to the officials of the Banking Department, all of these they are now foeking to set aside. Another $100,000 Deal in 1908, With relation to a claim of the North- ern Bank against Rovin, the petition filed in court states that on June 2%, 19M, David A. Sullivan gave nis promis- sory note in writing to pay the Hamiiton | Bank $100,000. This note was delivered to the Northern Bank June 12, 108. The petition then recites: That thereafter, for a valuable con- sideration, to secure the Northern Bank against loss up to the amount then due on said note, to wit, $75.00, to which amount the said note had been reduced, eald Joseph G. Robin, in wating, guaranteed the said bank agaii@t any loss to it on said note up to the said amount then due thereon. ‘That thereafter, and on or about the seventh day of January, 1911, pay- ment of said note was duly demanded and payment thereof was refused; that there is now due and owing to the Northern Bank on said note the sum of oO with interest; that the Northern Bark now holds as col eral security for the payment of s note the following property, and that the value of cach item of sald prop- erty is the value hereafter set forth Value.
