Two shootine affairs within half an hour, one at Fiftieth street and Ninth avenue and the other at Fifty-third | street and Ninth avenue, have puzzled the police to-day. The only victim was James McNally, an electrician, of No. 383 West Fiftieth street, He was shot in the left side by one of three men who surrounded him @t the corner of Ninth avenue, half a block from his home. This was in front of McGowan’s saloon at Fifty-third street and Ninth avenue, and when the police were notified they found Wallace uninjured in the back room of the saloon. The man who is alleged to have fired the chot is Joseph Martin, of No. 362 West Fifty-third street. He was @rrested and John Duncan, of the same address, and Hugh McMahon, of No. 533 West Fifty-third street, were summoned as witnesses, Martin was charged with felonious as- gault and with caving c concealed weap- gpa. A certified check for $00,099.58 was found this afternoon lying in the snow at Nassau and Pine streets. The check Wag ‘folded several times and had been kicked around considerably before final- ly oléked up. George Cullom, of No. 220 East Twen- tleth street, an office boy of the Equit- able Life, found the check upon emerg- ing from the office of the Equitable Trust Company. The check was drawn in favor of the New York Thust Com- pany. The loss had not been discover- ed at the offices of the New York Trust Company, or of Wolf Bros, Co., ‘of No, 100 Broadway, when the latter wns advised where the check had been found. A suitable reward was paid to young Cullum for his prompt action in returning the check.
