Two thousand five hundred children, 1,200 of them in the kindergarten and Primary departments, marched out of Public School No, 3, in Brooklyn, with: Out accident to-day at the sound of tho fire-drill signal. There was a fire in the school and the little ones knew tt, but they went through the drill with ail the precision of veterans on parade. But for the presence of mind of one of the pupils, aa yet unidentified, the fire might have been more sertous. Thig child discovered the blaze and, instead of sermaming “fire,” as many @n adult would have done, ran quietly to the office of the principal, Dr. La Belle White, and put in motion the machinery that emptied the school i Jess than three minutes, There was but one fire extinguisher in the school und this was empty up to a fow weeks ago, ‘hen Dr, White caused it to be filled without authority from the School Board.’ The extinguisher was installed last summer, but the con- tractor who put it in failed to charge it with the extinguishing fluid.
