~ BURGLARS RAID” /GREEN-GOODS MEN \, — 1,25 ~ \ARTENDERS . EIGHT HOUSES In the Homewood Seotion of Brooklyn They Make Numer- ous Visits, but Secure Very Little Plunder. THIEVES STOLE UNIFORM FROM A POLICEMAN. Also Carried Away Only Pair_of . Trousers Owned by Another Victim — Residents Getting Used to Burglars. Yn their second monthly raid on the Homewood section of Brooklyn last hight burglars entered eight houses, but they must have gained a pretty Door idea of Homewood because they Got less than $30 out of all that work. Incidentally, they put ® policeman out ©f commission by stealing his uniform, &nd another victim whose clothes were Ftolen while he slept had to borrow a alr df trousers in order to get to work. The burglars raided the same block, Bixty-eighth street, between Sixteenth Bnd Seventeenth avenues, a month ago, Bnd after getting into half a dozen houses, were driven away with an al- most valueless booty. They evidently came back last night for what they overlooked the last time, but besides the clothing, the best they could do was to rald a number of children's savings banks. F, Got Out His Shotgun. James Kavanaugh, of No. 1664 Sixty- eighth street, heard a nolse in the din- ing-room at midnight and went down- stairs with a shotgun. Near the bottom of the stairs he stumbled and fell, and the nolze drove the burglars away, When Stephen J. Nash awoke In his home, at No. 1666 Sixty-elghth street, he found the house littered with burned matches. The burglars, who had en- tered a dining-room window, had taken Mrs, Nash's purse, containing $3, and two of the children's penny banks, containing about $5. Thomas Fee, a policeman attached to the Bath Beach station, was sleeping soundly in his home, at No. 1676 Sixty- eighth street, when the burglars broke in and stole his uniform and raided the pantry. They took the edibles to the lawn in front of the house where they enjoyed a moonlight luncheon during @ recess in thelr work. When Mrs, Samuel Tantaine, of No, 1652, got up to-day sho found that the ‘burglars had been in her place buthad secured only her purse, which contained two or three dollars. Frederick Heggio heard the noise of the burglars in his home at No, 1054, and without leaving his bed he called flownstairs to them to be more quiet, Chat the baby was restless and they might disturb her. ‘The burglars evi- dently thought Heggie was angry and they left the house, Getting Used to Burglars. “Oh, I'm_used to, burglars," sald calc. "We have ‘em right’ along. were to get up and go chasini urglars every time they come aroun |, wouldn't get any rest at all.” William ‘Trolson, ‘of No. 1650, found that all of his clothes had been stolen, 4 he had to borrow trousers before could go down to breakfast. A; Murphy, of No, 1632, heard the downstairs with’ a revolver shey escaped without taking anything. o burglars were xetting into barles Fisher's place at No, 164 when the Gog Tiger made such a vigorous ob; tion that thi foudly and viciously that fis quit the neighborhood. e burs- | ¢2 and $2.50 values, 65° a Me was wetting daylight and | REDUCED TO.... been working Sporting Events In FINAL Edition of Evening World. Constant compiaints to the police of this city from the dupes of green-soods men have led to an Investigation of a gang of high-toned sawdust operators who have had the cool nerve to make the Waldorf-Astoria the scene of their transactions. From this fashionable hostelry, It has been learned, tons of green-goods Iiterature has been turned lcose In the west, with the usual result of catching an extraordinary percent- age of victims, The Detective Bureau is now trying to run down the gang which has made the Waldorf-Asicria @ “‘turnjng Joint.” but the green-goods men, having reaped ‘a goodly harvest, have taken wing, and the management of the hotel is now exerting itself mightily to keep secret the purpose for which their establish- ment has been used. The tale of Stanley Urbanski, a wealthy South Chicago baker, is an ex- cellent sample of the storles which have come to the police.
