— MISTERIOUS AD FOR CF. DODGE District-Attorney Is Puzzled to} Know Who Is‘Furnishing the Man Wanted Here for Per-) jury with Funds. HE IS NOW SAID TO HAVE GONE TO MEXICO, Grand Jury May Be Asked to: Find an Indictment Against ‘Him on Another Charge, So He Can Be Extradited. ps disappearance a Charles F. Dodge from Housto: Tex., where he was arrested and bailed out pending the settlement of extradition proceedings, and the manner tn which his ance was brought about, ha trict-Attorney Jerome to believe that there is some person with money behind Dodge who is aiding him to escape the consequences of his aileged commission of perjury. According to telegrams from Detec- tiye-Sergeaut “Herlihy, who went Houston to get Dodge, a steamer was chartered; for him and on it he made his way to Brownsville, Tex,, which is directly across the river from Mata- moras, Mex., to which he cduld easily ergss. There is no extradition treaty with Mexico by which he could bo brought back on a charge of perjury. Dodge is not a wealthy man, yet somebody induced a security company to put up $10,000 ball for him after his arrest in Houston. The steamer cost $1,009, and this was also put up in cash, Wh6t, the District-Attorney would like to kioW ts where did the money. come from. Dodge was indicted for perjury, com- mitted, it 1s alleged, when he swore, in order to get bis wife's divorce ‘an- nulled, that he hed never-been served in the action. . When he was arrested in Houston, A. H. Kaffenburgh, representing Dodge's attorneys, Howe & Hummet, went there to look after his interests. “Put Up Cash Ball, Dodge was admitted to bail in the {eum of $10,000, and this was put up in {cash, He retired to his hotel, and the jpext morning was missing. His co \eel, Kaffenburgh, ate breakfast at the }hotel and then disappeared also, The owner of the steamer which was @hartered for Dodge lives in Galves- ton. He was found, and said that three men, whose descriptions correspond with those of Dodge, his friend and supposed “body guard,” Wilson, and Lawyer Kaffenburgh, called on him and chartered tHe boat, paying $1,000 in| each, They sald they wished to have the bout take two of them from Hous- ton Wednesday night to Prownsville. which they would reach Friday night. It Is believed the steamer was take because the railroad does not run f\ ther than 150 miles from Brownsville, the rest of the land journey being made by stage, and Dodge feared he could be Ftopped by telegram at any station on the railroad as. soon as’ his absence became known, Herlihy has left Houston, evidently bound for Mexico, As a matter of fact, Dodge, being on bail, could ot. have been stopped had it been MOWR .that he’ intaaded taking the trip. May Be Indicted Agnin, The District-Attorncy says he will «pend every nossible to bring bout Dodge return, ‘Chere were ru- ‘mors tn the Criminal Courts Building | that the G ry would be asked to find dictment against Dodge, the new cing one on | which’ he could extradited from Mexico. When the wrapper is removed the same signature ap- irs on both sides of the bottle in red. Parents who have used Castoria for heir little ones in the past years need no warning agairist counterfeits and imitations, but our present duty is to call the attention of the younger gener- ation to the greet danger of introducing into their families sputtous medicines, It is to regretted that there are ple who are now engaged in the nefarious business of putting up and selling all sorts of substitutes, or what should more properly be termed counterfeits, for medicinal preparations not only for adults, but worse yet, for children’s medicines, It therefore devolves on the mother to scrutinize closely what she gives her child, Adults can do that for themselves, but the child has to rely on the mother’s watchfulness.
