N 4 > LEADERS WIL DISUSS THE GH LAW TO-DAY Gov. Odell Sends Word to Chiefs of the Assembly to Call, as He Is Ready to Take Upa Measure to Correct Gas Abuses in Manhattan. (Special to The Evening World.) ALBANY, N. Y., Feb. 4.—Gov. Odell is back in Albany with, the sug- lions of the New York City leaders as to the best way in which to curb the Gas Trust. He would see no one at the Mansion after his arrival, but _It was given out that he will call the legislative leaders into conference to- ‘day and definite action will be decided on. * While the Governor was away the lobbyists commenced to play. “The story was current in the hotels last night that a number of high cor- poration interests would have influential lobbies here by the beginning of next week. MRSA MA EME ER + The Gas Trust lobby fs particularly active, partly because of the early agitation of the gas abuses and partly through the fact that this Legislature will be a much more difficult one to handle than previous sessions. Legislation for the relief of New York City from the Gas Trust de- pends upon Gov. Odell, and he has given The Evening World his pledge that he will see that a relief measure is passed by the Legislature, When he will do this fs uncertain. Many believe he will insist on walt- ing until it can be incorporated in his omnibus bill, which, on its face, is designed to give New York City the privilege of governing itself. That: bill will probably become a law about the time the Gas Trust’s four-year pact with both parties expires, That will be in March, Certain very powerful legislators from New York City, including Senators Elsberg and Plunkitt, who thus far have not even expressed an opinion in favor of the gas consumers, will be taken into the confidence of the Governor to-day or to-night, and It fs possible an urgency gas relief measure will be submitted before the Friday ddjournment. The Gas Trust lobby has been exceptionally active because of the , exposures in The Evening World, and now the Albany public eagerly awaits the arrival of The Evening World. .., James Clark, who achieved considerable famé in’ confection with the reports of the official commission on the Panama Canal, and whose com- pany will be an active bidder on the reconstruction of the Brie Canal, fs in the city, and said to-day that the Legislature should take some means of curbing the New York Clty Gas Trust’s extortions, He has had to pay several gas bills, and knows how It feels, SHOULD WIVES OBEY2|THOUGHT HUSBAND NO, SAYS MAYOR) MADE UP FOR ALL “The Law Doesn’t Require Them Jury Finds for Defendant Be- to,” He Adds, “and So | Never Use the Word in the Marriage) Ceremony.” Husband Through Aooldent.
