Miss Elizabeth was called to the Morgue by Bugene Alexandra, a brother-in-law of the dead girl, who Is chemist at No. 8 Fifth avenue, and ‘who lives in Bensonhurst, Alexandra mwas told of the sulcide and the sus- picton that {t was Miss Richmond by &, Everett Thorpe, of No. 15 East Four- teenth street. One of ‘Thorpe's cards mwas found on the dead girl after ghe fwas taken from the ferry-boat. . “T hardly knew Miss Richmond. For that reason the police think it strange that just before she | rank the acid she took a card from “ ther pocket and wrote on {t in pencil the name Jennie Richmond and an ad- dress in Manhattan which she subse- quently crossed out. ‘The card was that of “E. Everett Thorpe.” Beneath the name the girl wrote No. 15 Bust Fourteenth street. No one named Thorpe lives at the number given. She had bright blue es, @ fresh rosy com- piexion and a great suit of waving @uburn hair. For a few minutes the young woman stood on the forward eck downstairs. ‘Then she stepped! bie into a corner near the women's jitrance, and taking a bottle of car lic acid from her handbag, she raised Ht to ner tips. @ made no outcry after drinkin; the polgon, but sank. fainting to the floor, Passengers gathered about het, and women, when they realized that the girl was dying in agony and with no help at hand, became’ hysterical. Beveral tainted The officers of the boat made every ef- fort to keep the girl alive until the Brooklyn slip was reached, Extra steam ‘was crowded on, but the girl dled within two minutes of ‘the time she swallowed the polson.
