DEVELOPED HEART TROUBLE. He Was In the Second Car from the Rear, with His TWo Children, and Never Fully Recovered from the | Shock. Stephen Mf Ganun, of the firm of Ganun & Parsons, opticians,-at No. 18 West Forty-second street and No. 269 Columbus avenue, died early to-day at his country home at Greenwich, Conn. It is beleved that {njurles he sustained in the New York Central tun- nel disaster of Jan. 8, 1902, contributed to his death, Mr. Ganun and his ¢wo children were in the second car from the rear of the train which was run into in the tun- nel. He was struck on the head by the falling roof, but regained con- scfousness in time to lower his chil- dren from a car window, Having been caught in,tho tunnel in a snowdrift at one time he knew there was a ladder at Fiftleth street, and there he went, leading many others away from, the horrors of the wreck. ‘The next day he was unable to leave bis honie and for a long time could at- tend to no business. Recently the rail- road company settled with Mr. Ganun, paying him a comfortable sum. Doc- tors had said his heart had been serl- ously affected by the shock of the col- Usion. Last Saturday he complained of his heart palning him and at that time the doctors said it was probably an after effect of the tunnel collision. Mr. continued at work, however, coming be the clty Monday, but remaining only a short time. Tuesday he was too Ill to come in and sank rapidly. Upon learning that his injuries were more serious than at first believed, Mr. Ganun entered the New York Hospital as a private patient and was there treated for a long time. It was sald he fad neuralgia of the heart and that he would be a sufferer until his death. The doctors say that was the cause of death. For the injuries sustained by himself and his children Mr. Ganun put in three claims for damages, and these have ail been settled. The cashfer In one of his stores thought the amount was $15,000.
