FOUR TAMMANY MEN DESERT. Haffen and Three Aldermen Leave the Opposition, Which Is Counting on Support It Will Not Get—Facts for Jerome. Advocates of the Pennsylvania tunnel franchise claim to have sufficient votes pledged to pass the ordinance at next ‘Tuesday's meeting of the Board of Al- dermen. Claims of Tammany opponents that they have votes to spare to defeat the Measure are denounced as extravagant attempts to keep up appearances in the hope that some turn of events may give opportunity to prolong the block- ade In thelr jubilation’ the advocates of the franchise were claiming to-day that forty-five votes had been pledged to the Passage of the Dill, or five more than @re necessary. ‘Tammany claimed to have forty-five votes in opposition when the bili was laid over under the rules on Tuesday Hafen in Line. Al- dermen Leitner, Gass and Harniechfeger are named as others who have deserted the opposition. He had an hour's consultation with Mayor Low late yesterday, at which a careful estimate was made of the number of votes which could be reliably counted upon in favor of the Dill. As a result of the conference Al- derman Meyers said to-day: “We shall put the franchise through at our next meeting.
