They are going over the mortuary records of Lowell and Cataumet to investigato the death of everyone with whom she had dealings in the capacity of nurse. Lowell people who know Miss Top- pan think she is insane and that she has a mania to do murder by poison. Her defense, it is said, will be in- sanity. The graves of two women, her al- leged victims, are to be opened’soon. Dr. Lathrop and other friends of Or- lando A, Brigham asked the authorities to-day for the exhiimation of the bodies of his daughters, Mrs. Calkins and Mrs. Bannister, both of whom died suddenly while Mies Jane Toppan was visiting them, and also of Dr. Latter, who died suddenly two weeks ago, after talking freely of his suspicions of something wrong in the deaths of the Davis family. He waa the family physician, but sald that they would not listen to his advice while the nurse was around. Soon after Mrs. Banniater’s death a bottle of medicine was found hidden in the Brigham house and It {s belleved to have contained polron. It Is now beink analyzed by an expert. It {ma noteworthy coincidence that all of Miss Toppan's alleged victims were given Hunyadi water by her shortly be- fore they died.
