POLL ALARMS WIGWAM MEN Report of Final Round Up Casts Gloomy Over Tammany. MR. CROKER VERY GLUM. Claims of Big Majority, Given Out to Cheer Voters, tiave No Foundation. This was a busy day at Tammany Wall. All the work of the campaign has been rounded up and the reports of the Gistrict leaders were made this after- Reon at 4.9) at the meeting of the Ex- ecutive Commistee. The final house-to- house canvass of the different diatricts have been made during the last week and the last returns were completed to-day, The meeting of the Executive Com- mittee was held in «secret, ax thes all are. and each leader, ax his district was called, reported to Richard Croker. The information comes to The Evening World from a very high authority that these reports were very disappointing to the members of Tammany Hall. The exact figures have up to thie the not been made public, but it in sald they fall far below the total majority that ‘was expected. Tammany Hall, of course, clalms a wictory. It would do that before election if it knew that defeat was positive. It ig said that the election of Shepard tn claimed by from 2,000 to 40,000, Brook- lyn, it is admitted, will be close, but Tammany claims it by 5,00. Queens, they say, will go for Shopard, put the figures are uncertain. Richmond, they are not certain of. but claim it’ by a Small) vote. The Hronx they have set aside as their own by a small majority: It Is sald, however, that these clainia odes etm ly given out to the faithful in le: ep up thelr courage. As a Matter of fact it Is wuld, that each trict leader saw Richard Croker yes- ferday and submitted his figures to nim Privately before they were presented to the Executive Committee at the meet- iB to-day. Th showing was so bad, it gaid, that some of the figures were ohange:! But In addition to this poor snowing the leaders do not rely heir own ri ris. Tammany’s canvass is probably @ Most thorough that i made in New York. The men who are detailed to the work perform thelr duty to the letter. They see every voter In the diatric But what they are afraid of this year is that the voters have not told them ie truth or that something will change eir minds before the day af election. Mr. Croker was asked to-day if uid give out the fikures. This was made manifest at the big meeting under the auspices of the Greater New York Democracy, both in Manhattan and im Brooklyn, “Another feature that Impressed me very much wax the enthusiasm shown by the people of the East Bide, who crowded the meetings and cheered us as we passed through the streets, “I consider i have been treated through thix campatgn both by public and the press with the greatest consid- eration. re has been very littl calied 'mud-slinging’ during” the fight but [ must say tint Tammany's tactle consisted largely in lying about me, “T shall finfsn my campaign to-night, and in all whl have attended sixty or xeventy meetings.
